‘Crocodile Hunter’ Killed Filming Documentary

BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA–“Crocodile Hunter” Steve Irwin was fatally struck in the chest by a stingray barb while on location filming a documentary of Australia’s Great Barrier Reef some 3 hours ago (11am AEST/11pm EST).

This is a most sad day for all of us geeky kids who enjoyed watching Croc Hunter on Discovery or in network syndication–Irwin was a larger-than-life hero to many (myself included) who did more for conservation and ecology than Captain Planet could ever have dreamed of!  Saddest part about this story, though, is that his wife, Terri, is reportedly on walkabout in Tasmania and is not aware of her husband’s tragic accident.

Now, I’m not one to really ask for prayers and whatnot, but, if you are so inclined, please keep a good thought for the Irwin family during this time–they may be personalities larger than life, but they are still real people and human beings.  In respect, I am considering pitching in for a round of Foster’s next day off.  Anybody care to join in?

In other news, I suppose I should revise my “Things To Do Before I Die” list:
